The Morecomb Family

Marizol was a fortunate woman, at least if you asked someone else. She herself wasn’t entirely sure. It wasn’t that she wasn’t happily married, because she was and she would never dream about being married to someone else than Viggo. And it wasn’t that she didn’t have a nice little house in a nice part of town, because she had. You could probably ask her a thousand questions as to why she felt unhappy and none of you would ever understand it, but she was unhappy.
Some of her friends said it was all part of her sons growing up and distancing themselves, others said it was because she more or less never left the house and yet others claimed she should take up some hobby like painting or writing since it was a matter of developing herself. She had taken up playing the piano, and got herself a few new cookbooks that collected dust on a shelf in the kitchen and it had not helped. She had joined the local choir for a short period of time and felt even more unhappy since it had not been her, and she had tried coming closer to her sons which of course had been doomed to fail, mainly because the two of them couldn’t be in the same room without starting a fight. It was enough that one of them opened the mouth and the other one would soon storm out of the kitchen.
Lady More, who would come around for tea every now and then to spread her awful gossip, claimed it was a boy thing as did Viggo. “They will grow out of it”, they would both say, in the same knowing tone. But Marizol wasn’t that sure, especially not since she had Griffin crying in her arms, asking her why Logan had to take a fancy to every girl he had ever liked, a question that Logan had asked her the previous morning, angrily rather than sadly. And the answer she had given him she gave Griffin too, that it wasn't about whom they loved but who loved them back, and if they were sensible young women they would know to follow their hearts, would they not?
Marizol was a fortunate woman, she knew that as she switched off the lights to go to bed that evening, since despite the little things she had a loving husband and two loving sons. But sometimes she still wondered what life would be like if they could just all get along, like in an ordinary family. Though she suspected that all families had their share of problems, still it was nice dreaming about the utopian family.
