The Lomas Family

Sir Tom Lomas had once been a brilliant scientist, knighted by the queen for his services to the medicine. But as the years passed brilliant turned into mad and he was granted less and less money for his strange projects until one day he found himself in a small laboratory working alongside his wife Bethany, struggling and scribbling like mad while the liquids hissed and bubbled around him, mixing since one of the old tubes leaked. The first sign that someone was seriously wrong started to show three days later as they both fell ill in what was presumed to be a case of the flu and thus harmless.

But as the days passed their illness grew only worse, and so it was that the their three children, Michelle, Andy and Jerry one early autumn morning found themselves to be orphans without much to their name.

Michelle, the eldest of the three children, somehow were assumed to take up her mothers role and take care of her two younger brothers, Andy and Jerry. And she did try, but making food and keeping after the house and keep up at school at the same time was impossible, especially since neither of her two brothers ever lifted a finger to help except if she yelled herself blue. And it got worse as she found out that their father had used their once waste fortune to finance his experiments and the first reminders to pay the bills started to fill the mailbox.

Jerry was still too young to even get a job at the grocery store, and Andy fiercely argued that he needed his spare time to keep up with school so he could get his scholarships.“After all private school costs, a lot”, he pointed out, leaving it up to Michelle to try to sort the finances out too. And as with all the rest she tried, taking up work as a dishwasher after school to return home all finished with heaps of homework and household work waiting for her.
